Mistra Music Player ("the App") is developed by Ivan Cvetanović ("I", "me"). This policy explains what information the App handles and who else receives it. The App has no user accounts, and I do not run any servers that receive your data.
The App reads the audio files on your device and their tags (title, artist, album, duration, artwork) so it can show and play your library. You can also add video files, in which case only their audio is played, and you can share a song with another app of your choice. If you use the tag editor, your changes are written to your own audio files.
The App stores data on your device, including: your playlists, favorites, play counts, listening statistics, the last playing queue, your settings, the theme you chose, any wallpaper image you picked, which holiday greetings it has already shown, lyrics saved for offline use, when your banner-free time ends, and a few counters and flags that pace ads and the rating request (for example how often you have opened the App, counted only up to a few times; when the rating dialog was last requested; and whether you have used "Rate this app"). Removing the App or clearing its data deletes this data from your device. If Android backup is on, a copy may also be held in your Google backup (see the Updates and Backup section below), which can be restored if you reinstall the App.
If you export a backup or a playlist, the file is saved only where you choose. If you choose a cloud folder, that provider will hold the file.
The App asks lrclib.net, a public lyrics service, for matching lyrics when you open the lyrics screen, and again for each new song that plays while that screen stays open, unless it already has saved lyrics or lyrics inside the song file. Tapping "Search online again" always sends a request, even if lyrics are already saved. The request contains the song's title and artist, and usually the song's length. In rare cases, for example when another app plays a file through Mistra's media session and supplies its own album name, the album name is sent too. If a file has no title tag, the file name may be used as the title. lrclib.net also receives your IP address and standard request details, which typically include your device model and Android version, and the App identifies itself to the service by name. Nothing else about your music library is sent, and the App makes no online lyrics requests unless the lyrics screen is open.
Lyrics that are found are saved on your device so they work offline. A "no lyrics found" result is remembered for about 7 days so the same request is not repeated, and plain-text lyrics are checked online again after about 7 days. Timed (synced) lyrics, lyrics read from your own files, and lyrics you import stay on your device until they are replaced or you clear the App's data. Expired entries are ignored but may remain on your device until you clear the App's data.
There is currently no setting to turn the lyrics lookup off. To avoid it, do not open the lyrics screen for songs that have no saved lyrics. lrclib.net is an independent third-party service. I do not control it and cannot say how long it keeps request data.
The free version of the App shows banner ads, and optional rewarded video ads that you can choose to watch to unlock premium themes and visualizers, to set your own picture as the app background, or to remove banner ads for 24 hours (each further video adds another 24 hours, up to 3 days in total; this affects only the banner ads). Ads are provided by Google AdMob. Google and its advertising partners may use information such as your device information, advertising ID, IP address (from which approximate location may be inferred) and how you interact with ads to show, measure and personalize ads and to prevent fraud.
In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and other regions where consent is required, the App shows Google's consent form (Google's User Messaging Platform). The advertising partners that may receive data are listed in that form. If you are shown the form, you can reopen it and change your choice under Settings > Ad Preferences in the App (an internet connection is needed). You can also reset your advertising ID or opt out of ad personalization in your Android settings (usually under Settings > Google > Ads; the exact path depends on your device).
Buying Premium removes banner ads. People who have bought Premium normally do not see the consent form. More information about how Google uses data in ads and in apps that use its services:
Optional in-app purchases are processed by Google Play. I do not receive or store your card or payment details, and the App only remembers, on your device, whether Premium has been unlocked. Google Play may show me purchase records, such as an order ID, in the Play Console. For more information, see https://policies.google.com/privacy
Google Play may offer you app updates inside the App. Rarely, after you tap the heart on a song in the full player, the App may ask Google Play to show its rating dialog. Google Play decides whether to show it and handles it; the App is not told whether you rated or what you wrote. If you post a review, Google publishes it under your Google Play name and shows it to me, under Google's terms. The "Rate this app" entry in Settings opens the App's page in Google Play.
If Android backup is turned on for your device, Google may back up the App's data (such as your playlists, favorites, listening history, settings, queue, saved lyrics and the wallpaper image you picked) to your Google account, under Google's terms. I do not have access to these backups. Backup copies held in your Google account are not removed when you uninstall the App; you can manage or delete them in your Android or Google backup settings.
Playlists, favorites and similar data refer to songs by numbers that are specific to one phone. So that a backup or transfer from one phone does not fill another phone with playlists that point at the wrong songs, the App saves a short code made from your device's Android ID (a number Android creates for each combination of device, user profile and app signing key; it can change, for example after a factory reset). The code is a one-way hash, but it is still a stable identifier for your phone. It is stored with the App's other data, so Google's backup (when Android backup is on) and a phone-to-phone transfer can carry it. The App uses it only to make this check on your phone: it does not send it anywhere or use it for ads, analytics or tracking, and I do not receive it. If the code in restored data does not match the phone, the App discards the restored playlists, favorites, play counts, listening statistics, saved queue, added videos and other data tied to the old phone's library, and starts them afresh. Your settings, theme and wallpaper are kept.
The App makes the current song's title, artist and artwork available to media controls on your device, such as the lock screen, notifications, Bluetooth devices and voice assistants. Apps and devices that connect to the App's media session, such as Android Auto or other media apps on your device, can also browse the songs, albums, artists, genres, playlists and favorites in your library and control playback. This happens between your device and those apps and is not sent to me; they handle the information under their own privacy policies. If you turn it on in Settings, the App can also broadcast the current song to other apps on your device. This is off by default.
If you open an audio or video link from another app with Mistra, the App connects directly to that address to play it, and the server at that address can see your IP address.
The App reads your device language, time zone and SIM or network operator information, on your device only, to work out your country and choose which holiday greetings to show. The App itself does not store these values or send them anywhere; it only remembers which greetings it has already shown, and when. You can turn the greetings off in Settings.
The App is not intended for children under 13 (or under the minimum age required in your country), and I do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
I do not run a server or user accounts that receive your data. Google (AdMob and Google Play) and lrclib.net receive data as described above. If you email me, for example through "Send feedback" in Settings, I receive what you send. You can delete the data the App stores on your device at any time by clearing its storage or uninstalling it. Data held by Google or by lrclib.net is governed by their own policies and tools.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom: personalized advertising is based on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time as described in the Advertising section above; the lyrics lookup is made only when you open the lyrics screen, to provide the feature you asked for. Data may be processed by Google and lrclib.net outside your country. You have the right to ask for access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information about you, to object to or restrict its use, and to complain to your local data protection authority (in the United Kingdom, the Information Commissioner's Office). Because the App itself does not send me any data, I hold personal information about you only if you email me, or if Google Play shows it to me (for example an order ID for a purchase, or a review you post). Requests about data held by Google or lrclib.net usually need to go to them, but you can contact me with any question at the address below.
I take reasonable measures to protect the App and make sure it operates securely. Requests to lrclib.net and to Google's services are sent over encrypted connections. However, no method of electronic storage or transmission over the internet is completely secure.
I may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date. For material changes I will also say so in the update notes on Google Play.
If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy, you can contact me at:
"Send feedback" in Settings opens your email app with a draft addressed to me. The subject contains the App's version, and a line at the bottom of the draft contains the App's version, your Android version and your device's maker and model. Nothing is sent unless you send the email; if you do, I receive your email address, your message and those details. You can edit or delete them before you send.
